Equinoctial Portable Sundial
A fine example of an 18th century portable equinctial sundial by Dudley Adams, son of George Adams who was maker to George III, in its original fishskin velvet lined case.
The engraved hour dial with silvered details is supported on a brass stand with three adjustable feet allowing the user to make sure the dial is level using the bubble indicators enclosed within the engraved compass rose.
Dudley Adams is listed in the Dictionary of Scientific Instrument Makers by Gloria Clifton as working 1788 to 1817.
