Rare Cary stick barometer

William Cary

A rare 18th century stick barometer by Cary , London, with very unusual scales running from 22 to 31 inches of barometric pressure,( the normal readings on a stick barometer run from 28 to 31) and the large thermometer scales run from -15 degrees fahrenheit to 150 degrees , making us feel this was made for a specific purpose, possibly for a mountain expedition or even early ballooning , although in the design of a marine barometer it has never had gambles and retains the original brass ring hanging to the top.
