A very rare 17th century Chew Valley musical 30 hour clock.
A very rare 17th century Chew Valley musical 30 hour clock.

This stunning 30 hour musical clock is a fine example of those made in the famous Chew Valley and is almost certainly by Edward Webb or The Bilbie family of makers. The three train movement with original verge escapement, plays music four times every 12 hours on 8 bells which lasts over a minute, The 11" dial with silvered chapter ring retains the original hand and is beautifully engraved with flowers and foliage.
The clock is now housed in a super 18th century mahogany case which was made especially for it in the mid 18th century showing how important it was felt to be approximately 80 to 100 years after it was made.
